Speaker Interview

Speaker: Saâd Dif

Could you briefly introduce yourself?

Hi! I’m Saâd. I am a Data Architect in the Foundations team for BlaBlaCar since 2016. I’m trying to help my team mates building great foundations for the tech stack to make our members travel more and see their loved ones.

I slipped in the Database cooking pot nearly a decade ago when I was a student. I then worked in an IT Service company for a few years.

Have you enjoyed previous pgDay Paris conferences, either as attendee or as speaker?
It will be both my first attendance to a pgDay conference and my first conference as a speaker. I missed last year’s one and really wanted to attend this year. I found it would be great to introduce how we use PostgreSQL.
What will your talk be about, exactly? Why this topic?

We found it would be useful to a lot of people to talk about what and why we do our things at BlaBlaCar.

I will talk about how we deal with herds of containers and more specifically PostgreSQL ones. What is our usage of PostgreSQL, the problematics that we had and how we decided to use BDR.

Then it will be about how we implemented it, how we manage or monitoring/alerting and backup/recovery with a feedback of the solution.

What is the audience for your talk?
Everyone who works with databases ☺ No matter what your job is there is at least some part of the talk that will interest you.
What existing knowledge should the attendee have?
Basic database knowledge. No one will drown ☺
Thank you!
